Songwriters in the Round

Songwriters in the Round (SITR) was started at RISA by Ryan Fitzsimmons. Ryan writes, "The concept of songwriters and musicians sitting down and sharing their compositions with each other is as old as the folk tradition itself. So this series I initiated at AS220 in January of 2004 is not an original idea.  My friend Jason Vatter hosted a very similar series in my hometown of Syracuse, NY. [...] Every month Jason would give the songwriters a theme ahead of time to write on. That provided the audience the rare opportunity to hear four different artists' perspectives on the same theme, at the same time. I was struck by the intimacy of the performances and the sense of community that surrounded the events. "

The additional fun and challenge of a RISA SITR is that the audience participates, coming up with songwriting themes for the songwriters of the following month.

SITR sessions take place the second Thursday of every month, and there are several rotating hosts. Our SITR coordinator reaches out to the membership before the start of each season, to ask members if they would like to participate on any of the scheduled dates. Keep an eye on your email, or the News page for your invitation to showcase your songwriting. Occasionally peoples' schedules change, so reach out to our coordinator if you would like to be on the list if someone should have to cancel.

Everyone is welcome to attend in the audience, even non-members.

Our SITR coordinator is Joanne Lurgio, jmlurgio@verizon.net
