  • How do I sign up to RISA?
You can click the "JOIN RISA!" option to sign up and pay for your membership!
  • How long is the membership?
The membership extends for a year from the date of your payment. We will send you an email when it is time to renew!
  • Do I have to play an instrument?
No; you don't even have to be able to sing to write songs! We're here to help, so join us and tap into your creativity. Email RISA for more information if you have any questions.
  • Do I have to have songs?
No, you can be a beginner and not have any songs! We will help you craft your first song (or your second, or your third...) through our workshops.
  • Do I need to be from Rhode Island?
No. You don't have to be from Rhode Island or even live in RI to be a RISA Member!
  • How can I play gigs?
We select performers from our list of RISA members. We will hand-select you based on the venue/event through the link you share on your individual member page, or you are welcome to answer a call for RISA member performers. If there is a particular event you'd love to play, email us and let us know!
  • Where are RISA meetings held?
The meetings are for board members, but we occasionally welcome all members for their input. You can find the location of each meeting on our RISA Calendar. RISA Workshops are held at a local music venue and RISA Critiques are held at a board member's home. Watch the Events page or follow RISA on Facebook to stay in the know!
  • What is SITR?
SITR stands for Songwriters in the Round. It's a showcase that started in Nashville where multiple songwriters perform on stage and sing their original songs one by one. The fun and challenge of a RISA SITR is that the audience participates, coming up with songwriting themes and voting on their favorites. Then the next group of songwriters at the next SITR must perform a song they wrote about, or inspired by, your theme!
